Senate Approves Lake Placid Ironman Bill

 The state Senate today approved legislation sponsored by Senator Betty Little that will allow out-of-state health care professionals to provide services for athletes competing in next month’s Lake Placid Ironman event.

 Licensed professionals, including massage therapists, physical therapists, chiropractors and podiatrists, would have to be in good standing within their state or territory and would be required to be appointed by World Triathlon Corporation to provide services to competitors.
 
 “The triathlon is an intense athletic event and having the licensed health care professionals available is very important for the health and well-being of the athletes,” said Little.  “This legislation is needed to allow licensed volunteers from out of state to perform these services.”

 The Ford Ironman Lake Placid event is scheduled for Sunday, July 25, 2010.

 Companion legislation sponsored by Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward passed the Assembly on May 18, 2010.  The bill will be returned to that house before being sent to Governor David A. Paterson for his consideration.
