Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) and Bellport Village Mayor David Pate announced today that Bellport Village will receive $450,000 in capital money from the State of New York.
The funding, secured by Senator Foley, will be used to fund projects in Bellport Village. A total of $300,000 in multi-modal funding will go towards re-vamping the sidewalks in the village and $125,000 in funding from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York will go towards restoring the Bellport Village Community Center.
“Bellport Village is one of the gems of Long Island’s south shore and I am glad to be able to provide state funding to help make needed improvements,” said Senator Foley. “In particular, it brings great joy to be able to provide assistance for the renovation of the community center. This building has been a mainstay in Bellport Village for a number of decades and the work that will be done there will help to ensure it remains a central part of village life for decades to come.”
“We are thrilled to be receiving these funds from the State of New York” stated Mayor David Pate. “The restoration of the Community Center will ensure that it remains the focal point of community activities. The monies to upgrade our sidewalks will benefit the walking community for which Bellport Village is known. We are very grateful for the support that Senator Foley has given us.”
The Community Center, located on Bell Street, next to Village Hall, was donated to the Village in 1933 by Lucy Mott. It has long been a meeting place for residents of the village, as well as the surrounding community. It currently provides meeting space and, once restored, a place for recreational activities, including billiards, bowling and board games. The building is open daily for residents and visitors in need of public restrooms.
