Support the Allegany and Long Point State Parks
Catharine Young
March 2, 2010
As you may know, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is proposing to drastically alter the operation of our State parks due to budget cuts proposed by Governor David Paterson.
According to the proposal, the Office of Parks has recommended closing Long Point State Park and parts of Allegany State Park - right here in our region.
Our parks draw more than a million visitors to our region every year. They provide an inexpensive recreational resource to families on tight budgets.
Closing our parks hurts our economy and quality of life.
While there is no question that our state needs to reduce spending, we should be targeting Medicaid fraud, the bloated state bureaucracy, and reversing the $13 billion increase in spending in last years’ budget - not closing our parks.
Please join Senator Young in fighting to protect our valuable natural resources by signing up below to save our parks.
Senator Young would also encourage you to participate in a public rally that she will be hosting in support of keeping our area’s state parks open. The event be held on Saturday, March 13 at noon at the bathhouses located in the Quaker Area of Allegany State Park. For more information about the rally or the petition, you can contact her office at 1-800-707-0058. You can also visit her Facebook page by clicking HERE.
