Over 1,000 senior citizens from Nassau and Suffolk Counties recently came to the Freeport Recreation Center to take part in Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.’s annual Golden Gathering.

During Senator Fuschillo’s Golden Gathering, seniors were able to receive free health care services, such as flu vaccinations provided by Nassau Health Care Corporation, blood pressure screenings, memory screenings, and hearing tests. Over 100 different government and local nonprofit organizations were also on hand to provide information about programs and services of which senior citizens could take advantage.

Additionally, seniors were able to safely dispose of old medications through a “shed the meds” program and dispose of old documents through the New York State Consumer Protection Board’s ‘shred the word” program.

Entertainment was provided by students from the Seaford School District, the Freeport Community Chorale, and Ms. New York Senior America Elisabeth Zamarelli.

"Whether it was health care screenings or information about different programs, the Golden Gathering offered something for all seniors," said Senator Fuschillo (R-Merrick). "I am pleased that so many seniors were once again able to access these important services."

Seniors who were unable to attend Senator Fuschillo’s Golden Gathering but would like more information about the programs and services that were offered can call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630 or email him through his website, fuschillo.nysenate.gov.
