New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today visited Seaford High School to thank students in the Key Club for participating in two programs he organized to help veterans in need. Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R-North Merrick) joined Senator Fuschillo in thanking the students for their efforts.

Students collected several boxes full of canned food as part of Senator Fuschillo’s veterans food drive. The food collected by the students will be donated to Long Island Cares: the Harry Chapin Food Bank for use in their veterans outreach program, which provides support for veterans and active duty military personnel and their families.

In addition, students collected well over 100 cell phones for Senator Fuschillo’s “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program. The phones collected by the students, along with the over 1,000 phones collected through the program, were sent to ReCellular, a cell phone recycling company. The donated phones will be used to purchase calling cards for the “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program. The calling cards will be sent to soldiers serving overseas so that they can call their loved ones back home.

“It’s wonderful to see how much these students care about helping those who serve our country. The food and cell phones they collected will go a long way towards helping veterans and soldiers serving overseas. They should be very proud of their efforts,” said Senator Fuschillo.
