Over 600 pounds of food, household supplies, personal care items, and school supplies were collected through a food drive sponsored by Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) to help veterans in need.
Senator Fuschillo partnered with Long Island Cares: the Harry Chapin Food Bank to sponsor the program. All donated items will be used by Long Island Cares as part of their veterans outreach program, which provides support for veterans & active duty military personnel and their families.
Senator Fuschillo thanked local residents for their generosity in making the program a success. Residents dropped off food and other items at Senator Fuschillo’s district office and at his booths at the Merrick and Bellmore Street Fairs.
“It’s wonderful to see the outpouring of support residents showed to the heroes who serve our country. No one who put their lives on the line and made sacrifices for our country should have to worry about not being able to feed their families. I thank everyone who helped make this food drive a success, as well as Long Island Cares for offering these important services to the community,” said Senator Fuschillo.
