LIRR, LI Bus Riders Can Submit Comments to MTA at Public Hearing, Through Mail, or Email
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today informed residents how they can join with him in fighting the MTA’s proposed service cuts to the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and Long Island Bus.
The MTA recently proposed service reductions for both the LIRR and Long Island Bus. The result would be the elimination of several local bus routes, the combining of LIRR peak trains on the Babylon line, and reducing the number of cars on certain trains on the Ronkonkoma line. A complete list of the MTA’s proposed service reductions is available on the MTA’s website, www.mta.info.
“After saddling Long Islanders with multiple fare increases over the last several years, and burdening local employers with a costly payroll tax, the MTA is asking us to pay more to receive less. The MTA needs to hear directly from the people who would be most affected by the proposed service cuts. I urge anyone who opposes these service cuts to make their voices heard,” said Senator Fuschillo.
The MTA will be holding two local public hearings to get commuter input on these proposed cuts:
* Monday, March 1st, 6 pm, Chateau Briand, 444 Old Country Road , Carle Place.
* Monday, March 8th, 6 pm, Suffolk County Legislative Auditorium, Evans Griffing Building, 300 Center Drive, Riverhead.
Commuters can also submit comments through the mail by writing to MTA Community Affairs, 347 Madison Avenue New York, New York 10017, or via email by clicking here.
Senator Fuschillo has already contacted the MTA to oppose their proposed service reductions and urged the MTA to look for additional savings within its own bureaucracy to offset the need for service reductions. Click here to view a copy of Senator Fuschillo's letter.
