Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with hundreds of members of the United Transportation Union (UTU) in protesting the MTA’s proposed service cuts.
The MTA recently proposed service reductions for both the LIRR and Long Island Bus. The result would be the elimination of several local bus routes, the combining of LIRR peak trains on the Babylon line, and reducing the number of cars on certain trains on the Ronkonkoma line.
Senator Fuschillo called on the MTA to abandon its plans for service cuts and find other internal savings within its own bureaucracy instead of reducing services to riders. He also urged those in attendance to contact the MTA and let them know the harmful impact the proposed service cuts would have.
