State Senate Passes Resolution Urging Obama Administration to Move 9/11 Terror Trials Out of New York City

The New York State Senate today passed a legislative resolution, cosponsored by Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), urging the Obama Administration to move the 9/11 terror trials out of New York City.

"Terrorists don’t belong on trial just blocks from where they inflicted one of the worst tragedies in American history. Placing these individuals in the middle of New York City would put people in danger, place an enormous economic burden on New York City, and cost hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars. The Obama Administration should abandon its plans and prosecute these terrorists on a secure military base away from the general public," said Senator Fuschillo.

Recently, Mayor Michael Bloomberg estimated that the terror trial, which is expected to take several years to complete, would cost the City of New York nearly $1 billion. Mayor Bloomberg opposes the Obama Administration's plan, as does Congressman Peter King (R-Seaford) who is actively fighting to keep the trials out of New York City.
