Senator secures $15k for nursing program, helping prepare tomorrow’s healthcare workers
CANTON (September 27, 2010)—State Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine visited Wicks Hall on the SUNY Canton campus today to announce a $15,000 legislative grant to help the college update its nursing facilities and equipment.
“We have great colleges and universities in our region and when the opportunity comes along to help make improvements to benefit our students and community, it’s an honor to be a part of that,” Sen. Aubertine said. “This funding ensures that SUNY Canton can continue its standards of excellence in its nursing program with new equipment that will help these students learn. Our colleges and universities are an integral part of our economic future and this funding will help to best train the workforce for our healthcare system.”
Sen. Aubertine secured the funding for SUNY Canton to update its nursing facilities and equipment. The $15,000 was used to purchase two hospital beds, two vital sign stations used in monitoring patients, two computers, and other learning tools specific to health education.
“We are thankful for this funding and Senator Aubertine’s commitment to higher education. It was great to have this opportunity to show the Senator how we are utilizing this grant money to better prepare our nursing students for their careers," said John F. Conklin, director of the SUNY Canton nursing program. "The funding allows our students to learn from the latest equipment in their hands-on education and make them immediately more desirable and qualified for employers."
SUNY Canton offers a wide variety of career-driven bachelor's, associate, and certificate programs. Most of the college’s new four-year programs are designed so students can take them on-campus, online, or both. SUNY Canton OnLine features more than 150 courses online each semester.
