NYS Senator Eric Adams Expresses Grief and Sympathy; Assures New Yorkers that Everything is Being Done to Protect Our State Following the Terrorist Subway Bombings in Moscow
NYS Senator Eric Adams, Chair of the Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, expressed his heartfelt sadness and outrage after suspected Islamic suicide bombers attacked the Moscow subway. Senator Adams assures New Yorkers that law enforcement has heightened security and vigilance in the aftermath.
Senator Adams’ statement: “Like all of my Senate colleagues and fellow New Yorkers, I am saddened and angered following the apparent Islamic terrorist suicide bombing in Moscow. It serves as a grim reminder of the vulnerability of urban public transportation and reveals the security challenges we face in New York. Terrorism is a serious threat to our nation and to our globe, and like the previous Islamic suicide attacks on the transportation systems in London and Madrid, this tragedy reinforces the need for special vigilance.
“It also has us on alert for further or coordinated attacks. New Yorkers, sadly, are no strangers to terrorist aggression against metropolitan areas, but every citizen should know that law enforcement is taking all necessary steps to thwart any assaults here at home; our agencies have just recently obtained a guilty plea from jihadist Najibullah Zazi in an Al Qaeda plot to explode a bomb in the NYC subway.
“As it has done after crises in other parts of the world, our city may send experts to assist with the investigation in Moscow, and extra security personnel and vehicles have been deployed in high-traffic and highly sensitive locations in and around the city. We remain a prime target for Islamic terrorism, and my Committee will keep a watchful eye for investigatory results from the Moscow bombing so that we can learn from it and implement additional ways to deter terrorism on the American homeland.”
