Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State To Present Padavan With Legislator of the Year Award for 2010

The Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State have announced that they are presenting New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) with their prestigious Legislator of the Year Award for 2010 in late October.  The Cerebral Palsy Association of New York State was founded in 1946 and serves as a multi-service organization to assist and provide vital services to the families of children with cerebral palsy. 
 
 The award recognizes Padavan’s significant contributions through the legislative process that have resulted in increased independence, productivity or integration for people with cerebral palsy and other significant disabilities, or is a benefit to their families.

 In a letter to Padavan, Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State Conference Chairperson Idajean Windell, Ed,D wrote; “You have been selected to receive this award because of your distinguished career as a legislator and your commitment and dedication to improving lives of all people with disabilities and their families. You have been a true friend to CP of NYS, its affiliates and people with disabilities. During the past when many in the disability community felt under attack, you were a voice of reason and encouragement. While recognizing that it is not a perfect system, you articulated that New York is a national leader in quality services for people with disabilities and voted against the budget because it will have a negative impact on New Yorkers with disabilities and their families.  When we felt forgotten, you were there to remind your colleagues of us as their constituents and the importance of our services. You truly are our Legislator of the Year! Thank you.”
