Padavan Launches Summer Reading Program for Local Students

 With the end of the school year and summer fast approaching, New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) is inviting all area students in the community to participate in his Summer Reading Challenge Program. The free program is intended to encourage school children to continue reading through the summer months.  

 “Reading is the cornerstone of a strong education,” Padavan said. “Fostering reading awareness doesn’t stop when the school year ends. My Summer Reading Challenge Program will help parents and educators throughout our community to keep school children interested in reading while preparing them for the next school year. I urge all children to head down to their local library and pick up a book today and take part in my “Catch a Wave” Summer Reading Challenge Program.” 

 The program is designed for students in Grades 4-6 but is open to any child in the community who enjoys reading.  In order to complete Senator Padavan’s reading challenge program, students must read at least three books and record their thoughts about their chosen works in a reading journal that is available on Padavan’s website. Any child who returns a completed log to Senator Padavan’s office before the end of summer will receive a Certificate of Merit in recognition of their efforts.
