Senator Farley Honors Niskayuna's Mardy Moore As a Woman of Distinction

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) recently had the pleasure of naming Mardy Moore of Niskayuna as a New York State Woman of Distinction at a ceremony held in Albany on May 25th.

"Mardy is truly a community volunteer and an extremely hard worker," Senator Farley said. "She is a founder of the Schenectady Free Health Clinic, was one of the incorporators of Proctor's Theatre, served on the Empire State Aeroscience Museum and Schenectady Museum boards, and has volunteered in numerous capacities for the Schenectady Chamber of Commerce. She did all this and also raised six wonderful children."

The Senate's "Women of Distinction" program was created in 1998 to honor New York women who exemplify personal excellence, or whose professional achievements, acts of courage, selflessness, integrity or perseverance serve as an example to all New Yorkers.

"Mardy fits the description of 'Woman of Distinction,'" Senator Farley said. "Mardy served four terms as Niskayuna Town Supervisor, starting in 1979, a time when there were few women in government leadership roles."

She also served on the St. Clare's Hospital Board of Trustees for close to 30 years. She has served as president for the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra, Catholic Charities of Schenectady, Ladies of Charity, St. Clare's Hospital Auxiliary, St. Helen's Rosary Society, the Schenectady Civic Players, and the Schenectady branch of the American Association of University Women.

At the Women of Distinction ceremony, Mardy shared one of her favorite quotes with Senator Farley. "My mother had a motto - not failure but low aim is crime," Mardy said. "I guess my motto would be the old saying - any good that I can do, let me do it now. Let me not neglect or defer it, for I shall not pass this way again."

The valedictorian of her high school class and graduate of the College of New Rochelle, she was employed at the GE Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. Mardy was married to the late Charles V. Moore and is the proud mother of Karen, Ellen, Brian, Diane, Robert and Denis Moore. She also has 11 grandchildren.
