State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) today dedicated the new Beech-Nut processing and packaging plant in the Town of FLorida. The company has also moved its corporate headquarters from St. Louis, Missouri, to the new facility.
“Not only will Beech-Nut corporation be retaining its existing 356 jobs in Montgomery County, it is expected that the new plant and headquarters will lead to the creation of at least 135 new jobs for our region,” said Senator Farley.
“Beech-Nut’s decision to keep its jobs in the area represents a new kind of partnership with all levels of government, regardless of party, to keep our communities economically viable. I was proud to work with Senator Chuck Schumer as well as with then-Assemblyman Paul Tonko in order to keep these jobs where they belong – the Mohawk Valley,” said Senator Farley.
Beech-Nut began as a family run business in 1891, known for the quality meats it produced. By 1931, the company entered the baby food industry. Since then, Beech-Nut has become world famous for quality baby food, becoming the first major company to offer baby food free of added sugar.
“We should all be proud that Beech-Nut has decided to keep its roots here in New York. We should also be aware that only by having all levels of government working together can we continue to retain and create jobs in our area. I am whole-heartedly dedicated to working in a bipartisan manner to improve our economic climate. My bottom-line is to give our children the same, if not better, job opportunities then their parents had,” continued Senator Farley.
“There is much to be proud of in the Mohawk Valley. We were a major part of the economic engine that made America the greatest nation in the world. Today’s dedication of the new Beech-Nut facility is part of that history. By working together, we can make a fundamental difference in the lives of our residents,” said Senator Farley.
