Rochester – Alesi (Republican, 55th District) announced today that the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is now accepting applications for four $1,500 scholarships to be awarded in June at their Annual Conference Weekend. Scholarship winners must be present to receive their awards.

“Given the rising costs of college, local students and their working families require more financial assistance to attend college,” said Senator Alesi. “Students must take advantage of all financial aid avenues including scholarships, as well as student loans and personal contributions. I highly recommend that our area’s students apply to the Conference for these prestigious scholarships so that they may hopefully secure as much extra help with their expenses as possible.”

This year the Italian-American State Legislators Conference will be awarding four $1,500 scholarships to four current or future college students from New York State. Eligibility will be based upon the student’s grade point average, interest in pursuing higher education, involvement in the local community, and individual financial need.

“Our conference is very proud of our role in promoting higher education and assisting students in reaching their academics goals and full potential for future success in the global marketplace,” Senator Alesi continued. “This year’s recipients will be invited to Albany to receive their scholarship awards in June.”

Area students may request an application by contacting Senator Alesi’s office at (585) 223-1800 or alesi@senate.state.ny.us. Completed applications should be submitted to Senator James Alesi, 220 Packetts Landing, Fairport, NY 14450 no later than FRIDAY, MARCH 26, 2010.
