ALBANY, 04/29/10 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I- Oneonta) today announced legislation that clears the way for weapon manufacturers, including Remington Arms, to produce and repair firearm silencers for law enforcement and military agencies has been signed into law.
“The legislation opens the door to an exciting new job front for Remington Arms,” said Senator Seward. “By erasing a legal barrier, Herkimer County’s number one employer can now set its sights on a new segment of the firearm industry.”
Senate bill 2721, cosponsored by Senator Seward, will allow properly licensed weapon companies like Remington to manufacture and repair firearm silencers for governmental/military use only.
“Measures like this show the state’s ability to respond to business and improve our economic landscape. Cutting bureaucratic red tape through commonsense legislation will help our existing businesses grow and make it easier to attract new companies to our state,” Seward concluded.
The bill passed unanimously in both the senate and the assembly and has been signed by the governor.
