ONEONTA, 09/30/10 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I–Oneonta) announced today that replacement of an Otsego County bridge has been expedited due to recent discussions with the local utility.
“A reconstructed Brooker Hollow Road bridge will provide safe passage to school students, families and individuals who rely on the span on a daily basis,” said Senator Seward. “Completing the job as quickly as possible will alleviate any long term inconvenience.”
National Grid ensured Senator Seward its understanding of the project’s importance to the community and aligned the appropriate resources to maintain a schedule that would work for all interested parties. Previously, Senator Seward secured state grant funds to cover one-half of the construction expenses and negotiated an agreement with Canadian Pacific Rail (CP Rail) to cover the balance of the project cost.
“Senator Seward has been closely involved in this project from day one,” said Otsego County Representative Donald Lindberg, Worcester. “With his guidance, the bridge work will be completed quickly and with significantly less cost to local taxpayers, a major plus.”
“Completing work on the Brooker Hollow Road bridge before winter weather begins is a major plus and will ensure school buses aren’t forced to take a lengthy detour to transport our students to school safely. Thanks to Senator Seward and National Grid for stepping in and working to keep this project on a timely path,” commented Worcester Central School Superintendent Gary Kuch.
Otsego County is overseeing the Brooker Hollow Road bridge project.
“This project has involved a number of moving parts. I am pleased to have helped bring all the parties together to protect the safety, and bottom line, of those who live and work in Otsego County,” Seward concluded.
