Senator Klein and Locust Point Civic Association hold Earth Day Celebration

BRONX, NY - On Saturday, April 24th, State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) and Locust Point Civic Association President Jerry Landi held an Earth Day Celebration at the Locust Point Civic Association (LPCA) clubhouse. Klein also presented a $100,000 grant to the LPCA to fund environmentally-friendly renovations to its clubhouse, including a new boiler, lighting and energy efficient appliances.

“Creating a greener world starts in our own backyards. I applaud the Locust Point Civic Association as they work towards making the clubhouse a more environmentally friendly and energy efficient space,” said Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester).

“I thank Senator Klein for giving us this grant. We have wanted to make our clubhouse more environmentally-friendly for years and now thanks to the Senator, we can make that happen. We hope this project sets an example for other civic associations and other people in our neighborhood to go green,” said Jerry Landi, president of the LPCA.

Klein and Landi’s Earth Day celebration kicked off with an organic brunch buffet followed by educational presentations demonstrating the importance of going green. Presenters included representatives from the NYC Department of City Planning, NYSERTA, NYC Department of Environmental Conservation, NYC Department of Education and the Sierra Club.

After the presentations, dozens of parents and children participated in seed planting, a recycling relay race and raffle.
