Senator Klein presents 100K to the “Friends of Pelham Bay Park” Dog Run Committee
NEW YORK- On Sunday, March 21st, Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) presented a $100,000 grant to the “Friends of Pelham Bay Park” Dog Run Committee at Pelham Bay Park. Pelham Bay Park Administrator Marianne Anderson, “Friends of Pelham Bay Park” President Lizabeth Gonzalez and Community Board 10 residents and dogs joined Klein for the event.
The committee will use the money to build a new dog run in Pelham Bay Park. Dog owners in the area had expressed concern for the safety of themselves and their pets, as the current dog run is in a state of disrepair with inadequate fencing and lighting. The new dog run will include more lighting and new fencing as well as new benches and water stations.
“With a great number of dog owners in the Pelham Bay community - a clean, well-lit, modern run is a great place for safe, family-friendly outings, especially now that spring is here,” said Senator Klein.
“All of us are elated about it. This dog run is not only for dogs to socialize but this is where we gather to socialize as well. A new run improves our quality of life across the community,” said Nick Raptis, Dog Run Committee member.
