Klein Bill Expands Residential Permit Area for Village Residents
ALBANY – State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced on Monday that the Senate passed legislation (S.1866) unanimously to expand the residential parking system for the Village of Tuckahoe. Due to Tuckahoe’s two commuter rail stations, Village residents often face significant difficulty finding parking on residential streets.
"Ensuring adequate parking for Tuckahoe’s residents is a clear quality of life matter. By expanding the existing residential permit zone, villagers can rest assured that at the end of a long day, they won’t be forced to circle their neighborhood endlessly in search of an available spot on their own street. I urge my colleagues in the Assembly to pass this legislation, so that we can promptly bring it to the Governor to be enacted into law," said State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader Jeffrey D. Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester).
The Tuckahoe residential parking permit system, first established in 1998, was instituted to improve access to parking for Tuckahoe residents in the face of significant non-resident parking on residential streets surrounding the Village’s two commuter rail stations. Senator Klein’s bill expands the current area of residential parking further east from Fisher Avenue to the Town of Eastchester town line, and North to the northerly border between the Village of Tuckahoe and the Eastchester town line.
“The Village of Tuckahoe is extremely grateful to Senator Klein for once again successfully moving this legislation through the Senate. In a small village like Tuckahoe, the added commuter parking from our two, lower Westchester train stations places a serious burden on our residents. Senator Klein’s legislation will make a big difference in Villagers’ daily lives, and so now I turn to call on the Assembly to immediately pass this crucial bill,” said Tuckahoe Mayor John Fitzpatrick.
