Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently participated in the Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) program at Arrowhead Elementary School. Reading to both Debby Cheney’s 5th Grade class and Chrissa Bloom’s 6th Grade class, Senator Flanagan joined parents and other community members in bringing the joy of reading to the students of the East Setauket school.
Senator Flanagan read “My Senator and Me: A Dog's Eye View of Washington, D.C.” by the late United States Senator Edward Kennedy. The story provided both classes with an insight into the life of a senator and how a bill becomes a law.
"The Parents as Reading Partners program is a special event and I thank the school for inviting me back again this year. As a parent of three, I know how important my children’s teachers have been in giving them a love and appreciation for reading and hopefully this event will help do the same for the students at Arrowhead Elementary. This is a great program that the entire school should be proud of and I look forward to coming back again next year,” stated Senator Flanagan.
