Senator Flanagan Proudly Inducts Edward J. Borowski Into Senate Veterans' Hall Of Fame

Senator John J. Flanagan (2^nd Senate District) recently had the privilege of presenting Mr. Edward J. Borowski as his honoree for induction into the New York State Senate Veteran’s Hall of Fame at a special ceremony in Albany.  Mr. Borowski, who was nominated by his son Paul E. Borowski, served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Mr. Borowski joined the Navy in 1942 following his service in the Civilian Conservation Corps (C.C.C.s) during his teenage years in Idaho.  Mr. Borowski served aboard the U.S.S. Battleship Texas from November 27, 1942 to October 4, 1945 and was awarded numerous medals including the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze stars and the Philippine Liberation Medal. 

Following his service to the country, Mr. Borowski began an active and proud association with numerous organizations which started when he served as the Commander of the Catholic War Veterans and was involved in the Polish Legion American Veterans #5 in Jamaica, Queens.

When he moved to Hauppauge in 1966, Mr. Borowski continued to take part in local organizations including his service in 1980 as the Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #5796 in Kings Park.  In addition, Mr. Borowski also dedicated his time by serving as the VFW Service Officer for over 10 years presenting citations to numerous young men across Suffolk County who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

Presently he serves as President of The Rose Borowski Memorial Scholarship Foundation, an annual scholarship given to a graduating Hauppauge High School Senior for exhibiting excellent qualities in community service, scholastic achievement and Scouting.  And he continues to volunteer his time to his fellow veterans twice a week at the Long Island Veteran's Home in Stony Brook.

As his son Paul noted in his nomination: “I am proud to call Edward J. Borowski my father.  He clearly exemplifies the word "patriotism" to his granddaughter, who is a student of Hauppauge Public Schools, his family, our community and his country.”

“It is truly an honor to recognize Mr. Borowski’s service to his country and his fellow veterans.  He is an incredible man and his family is truly justified in how proud they are of him.  I thank his son Paul for nominating him, his family for joining us in Albany and, most importantly, Mr. Borowski himself for all he has done for our nation,” stated Senator Flanagan.

The New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame was created to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from the Empire State who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life. Their meritorious service to our nation deserves the special recognition that only a Hall of Fame can provide, as a fitting expression of our gratitude and admiration.
