On January 21st Senator José M. Serrano attended the “Las Octavitas” event at Taino Towers in East Harlem. “I am thrilled to have been able to bring the holiday season to a close with this fantastic tradition, which is a staple in Puerto Rican culture," said Serrano. "It was truly an honor to have had the opportunity to share this very special day with my community.”
Las Octavitas is a traditional Puerto Rican celebration that extends the holiday season 16 days after Three Kings Day. The event was hosted by New York City Comptroller John C. Liu, Councilmember Melissa Mark-Viverito, and Yolanda Sanchez from the Puerto Rican Association for Community Affairs.
