NYC Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe; Councilwoman Helen Foster; Congressman Jose E. Serrano; Senator Jose M. Serrano; Wilhelm Rhonda; and Community Board 4 Chairman, Pastor Wenzell Jackson.

Senator Serrano today joined other elected officials and Bronx residents for the ribbon cutting of the Skate Plaza and Playground at River Avenue, located on 157th Street and River Avenue, near Yankee Stadium.

The playground includes landscaping and play equipment, as well as lights and spray showers that are activated by passing subway trains. The concrete skate plaza was designed with input from the skateboarding community, and features half-pipes, ramps, stairs, rails, ledges, benches, and banks, among other features.

“The opening of these parks is a great moment for our children and our neighborhood,” said Senator José Serrano. “Parks offer a fantastic opportunity to keep our communities healthy and active. On River Avenue, the Skate Plaza ensures a safe space for those who practice activities like skateboarding, BMX biking, and inline skating, and the playground will provide recreation for our young children in a fun and secure environment.”
