Over 40 people attended the first half of a two part intellectual property workshop on Tuesday, November 30th, at Hostos Community College. The event, titled “You Made It Now Protect It: Trademarks and Copyright for Artists, Nonprofit Organizations and Small Businesses,” provided a great deal of useful information regarding trademarks, copyrights, design patents, and work-for-hire agreements. An expert panel of intellectual property attorneys explained these concepts and how they can be put into practice.
Senator Serrano sponsored the workshop along with the Bronx Council on the Arts and The Legal Aid Society.
"These concepts aren’t just useful for artists, but also non-profits and small businesses that are not related to the arts." said Senator Serrano. “The goal of these workshops is to give people the tools and the motivation to succeed and to protect their intellectual property."
Part Two of the workshop will take place on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, and is titled “The Website Audit: Best Legal Practices on the Internet for Artists, Nonprofits & Small Businesses. All are encouraged to attend!
