Serrano Statement on Tragedy in Haiti
José M. Serrano
January 12, 2010
"Tuesday’s devastating earthquake has affected many Haitian New Yorkers who are frantically trying to reach their relatives and friends. I extend my deepest sympathies to all those impacted by this horrific event and I fully support our federal government's aid and intervention during this difficult time.
"Despite being a country rich in spirit and culture, Haiti has a long history of devastation, and its people have suffered for too long without the resources necessary to withstand what has been a string of incomprehensible tragedies. During moments like this we are reminded that as citizens of the world and as part of the larger human family, we must stand together and do all we can to assist our Haitian brothers and sisters."
