Addabbo: Weekend Storm Damage and My District Office’s Response
Queens, NY, March 16, 2010 – NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., today released the following statement:
My district office’s 24-hour live operator service started receiving calls regarding the damages caused by the recent storm around 2 p.m. Saturday. The most serious of these calls were certainly from Hamilton Beach where multiple utility poles were down due to the high winds. My staff and I immediately started to call Con Ed, the 106th Police Precinct, Mayor Bloomberg’s office and the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). I was notified that power in those downed poles would have to be rerouted and transferred after the rain had stopped as those wires supplied power not only to Hamilton Beach, but to Broad Channel and the Rockaways as well. At 2 a.m. Monday morning, my office service was notified that Con Ed had completed rerouting the power and that the MTA had removed the train signals from the poles and that at 9 a.m., the poles were being removed. I truly believe that for over seven years, the 24-hour live operator service provided by my district office has proven to be a benefit to the people I serve and I look forward to continuing this service.
