Young People Display Creative Genius at Invention Convention 2010
Rochester, NY— On Saturday, May 15 from 12:30pm to 4pm, budding inventors will display models of their bright ideas for the Rochester Region–Finger Lakes judging of Invention Convention 2010. The event will take place in the lobby of the Rochester Museum & Science Center Strasenburgh Planetarium, and the public is invited to meet the inventors and share the excitement. Admission is free.
Invention Convention is a New York statewide education program for public and private school students in grades one through nine. With the goal of building a new generation of American inventors, the program encourages creativity and the development of analysis, design, and problem-solving skills in math, science, and technology. Judges include patent attorneys, local inventors, and scientists.
This year's Rochester convention is sponsored by the Rochester Intellectual Property Law Association and the Rochester Museum & Science Center, and directed by Anna Rivoli of the Spencerport School District and Dr. Calvin Uzelmeier of the RMSC. Other state regional competitions are headquartered in Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, and Syracuse. Each region conducts its own program and selects 25 finalists for the state recognition ceremony.
Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) receives major funding from Monroe County. RMSC includes a planetarium, nature center and science/regional history museum. The mission of the RMSC is to stimulate broad community interest and understanding of science and technology, and their impact—past, present, future—on our lives. For more information about RMSC, see http://www.rmsc.org.
