SENATOR GRIFFO HONORS LOCAL WOMAN OF DISTINCTION

Edie Carbone of Boonville Receives Recognition

(Albany) - Senator Joseph A. Griffo named Edna “Edie” Carbone the 2010 Woman of Distinction for the 47th Senate District at the 13th Annual Senate Women of Distinction ceremony last Tuesday night in Albany, honoring their outstanding contributions in enriching the quality of life for their communities and beyond.

“We recognize women like Edie, that have made significant contributions to the neighbors near to her and to the wider region where we all interact,” said Senator Griffo.  “Edie Carbone’s commitment to cancer survivors, and as an active fundraiser for many charities and causes in the region and as a part of one of the most successful small businesses in the area, compelled me to call attention to a woman who doesn’t look for, or seek the spotlight.”

Griffo continued, “I am pleased to once again sponsor the New York State Senate’s Women of Distinction program, which honors exceptional achievement, personal excellence and outstanding, courageous or heroic actions on the part of individual women.”

The Senate's "Woman of Distinction" program was created in 1998 to honor New York women who exemplify personal excellence, or whose professional achievements or acts of courage, selflessness, integrity or perseverance serve as an example to all New Yorkers. Past honorees from the 47th Senatorial District include Joanne Dicob, Jeanne Donalty, Mary Chapin and Ruth Garner.

Griffo added, “From successful small-business family matriarch, to charity fundraiser, to a tireless advocate for cancer survivors, Edie sets an exemplary model for all New Yorkers, and I am extremely proud to honor her as a Woman of Distinction.”

Carbone was recognized during a reception at the Legislative Office Building last Tuesday night, along with other honorees from across the state.
