Senator Lavalle Announces Summer Reading Program

With the end of the school year rapidly approaching, Senator LaValle is inviting all students in the First Senate District to participate in his Summer Reading Program.  Senator LaValle is sponsoring this free program to encourage students throughout our community to continue reading over the next summer vacation.

The program is designed for students in Grades 4-6 but it is open to any young child in our community who enjoys reading.  To complete Senator LaValle’s reading challenge, students will be asked to read at least three books over the summer and record their thoughts about their chosen works on reading logs that are available through Senator LaValle’s office.

The children who return a completed log to Senator LaValle’s office by the end of the summer will receive a Summertime Reading Passport certificate to recognize their efforts.

"Reading is such a valuable part of a young student’s education that it is vital they continue practicing over the summer months.  This program will hopefully help parents keep their children interested in reading and help the children build a stronger foundation for the next school year,” said Senator LaValle.
