Senator Lavalle Applauds Local Efforts to Go Green

Senator Kenneth P. LaValle is pleased that schools, libraries, and fire departments within the First Senate District have taken advantage of Long Island Power Authority’s (LIPA) Green Building Incentives program to help save energy, reduce costs, and protect the environment.

According to the Senator, the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is recognized by LIPA.  LEED systems promote sustainability and provide the resources necessary to have an immediate and measurable impact on a building’s performance.  To date, Southampton High School, Hampton Bays Middle School, Eastport South Manor School, Westhampton Library, Southampton Village Fire Department, Suffolk Community College Riverhead Campus Learning Center, and SUNY Stony Brook’s Southampton Campus Library have installed or are working on LEED certified projects with the help of LIPA.

“I am encouraged by the number of public and private entities that are taking advantage of LIPA’s incentives to help meet LEED Green Building goals,” said Senator LaValle.  “This valuable program promotes good human and environmental health and is in keeping with our nation’s goal to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.”
