Senator Kenneth P. LaValle is pleased to announce that he has been notified of the Long Island Rail Road’s (LIRR) plans to adjust its current schedule, beginning this coming September, to meet the needs of people traveling to eastern Long Island.
According to Senator LaValle, several meetings with LIRR officials led to the decision to extend weekday train service in Riverhead to accommodate potential jurors who have been called to serve. As a result of the input provided by the Suffolk County Commissioner of Jurors, judges, local officials, and the community, service will be scheduled to arrive in Riverhead at 8:55 a.m. starting in September. Afternoon westbound service will depart Riverhead at 1:21 p.m. and 3:58 p.m.
“I would encourage potential jurors to take advantage of the new schedule being implemented by the Long Island Rail Road,” said Senator LaValle. “Greater use of the rail service to eastern Long Island will provide the attention needed to ensure that the public’s transportation demand is addressed in a respectable manner.”
Senator LaValle also noted that the meetings with LIRR have also led to discussions among LIRR marketing staff to develop strategies to promote North Fork communities, businesses, and special events as destinations for LIRR customers.
