Senator Lavalle Comments on State of the State

One of the statements in Governor Paterson’s State of the State that I found very encouraging was that he sees investments in higher education as a positive way to address our economy and create jobs.

This is something I have been saying and supporting for my entire career.  We are very fortunate on Long Island to have the State University at Stony Brook, Farmingdale, and Old Westbury, as well as two great community colleges in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

I believe if the Governor makes investments rather than disinvestments in our higher education system, it will enable us to grow our economy and create and retain jobs.

I look forward to following Governor Paterson’s progress when he gives us his budget 3^rd week in January.
