“I am pleased that the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission is considering options other than a five-year ban on lobster fishing to restore the lobster population along the East Coast. A ban would devastate Long Island’s remaining lobster fishing industry and have a negative impact on our local restaurants and fish markets. Long Island fishermen have suffered numerous restrictions and regulations. I am hopeful that the final decision will be considerate of our fishermen’s livelihood and the survival of Long Island’s commercial lobster fishing industry as a whole.”
According to a representative of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission a decision is expected early next year.
