Senator Krueger Joins Her Senate Colleagues in Honoring ‘Women of Distinction’ Across New York

(Albany, NY) Each year, the New York State Senate honors a select group of outstanding women who make our world and our lives better. This year, for the 13th annual Women of Distinction celebration, Senator Liz Krueger recognized Mary Silver, who has tirelessly fought for issues impacting New York City Schools.

“Mary Silver has been a tremendous asset to New York City Schools,” said Senator Krueger. “As a parent to children in New York’s public school system and as an advocate for quality education for all children, she understands what needs to be done to enhance our school system.”

Over the past ten years, Ms. Silver has proven to be an extremely committed and dedicated member of her Manhattan community, demonstrating a particular commitment to New York City’s schools. Currently, Ms. Silver is First Vice President of Community Education Council District 2, where she has served for the past five years. Ms. Silver is also a member of the executive committee of Friends of New York City Lab School and an ever-present advocate for PS 116, The Mary Lindley Murray School, where her children have attended over the last eleven years.

Senate members from both sides of the aisle chose this year’s nominees for their dedication to community and their achievements in education, the arts, health, and business. The women selected have not only achieved great success on an individual level, but on a social level as well, strengthening our state and making it a better place.
