Statement From Senate President Pro Tempore Malcolm A. Smith Re: Race to the Top Finals

“Students throughout this state deserve a quality education. I am ecstatic that New York is in the finals for the race to the top funding.  I, along with my colleagues in the State Senate have continued to fight to improve education. Race to the top funds will substantially change the achievement gap and ensure a quality education.

I would like to applaud Chancellor Tisch and Commissioner Steiner for working together to ensure that students in New York are afforded the best education possible. ”
