(St. Albans, NY)- Creating jobs and putting New Yorkers back to work is the top priority of the Senate Democratic conference. Thousands of jobs will be brought to the New York Metro Area with the creation of video lottery terminals (VLT’s) at Aqueduct and the expansion of the Delta terminal at JFK.
“The announcement of Genting New York to operate VLT’s at Aqueduct is extraordinary news for the residents of Queens. Genting, which is headquartered in Malaysia, will bring economic stability and good paying jobs to the community,” Senate President Pro Tempore Malcolm A. Smith said.
Genting’s robust job creation plan includes a focus on partnering with the community as well as with minority and women owned businesses. They have also committed to buying from local suppliers and donating 1 percent of their total annual income to the community. Genting will hold job fairs in Queens giving area residents the first opportunity to fill positions including construction, facility operations, food service and others.
The recent agreement between Delta Airlines, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and John F. Kennedy (JFK) Air Terminal for the $1.2 billion expansion of Terminal 4 at JFK Airport is expected to generate 10,000 jobs in the New York Metro Region by 2014.
Construction on the terminal is scheduled to begin September 2010. Development of the first phase and full relocation of Delta’s operations to Terminal 4 is expected in May of 2013.
“Both of these economic development projects will bring much needed money and employment opportunities to the community. I am delighted to have worked on these projects and eagerly anticipate the positive changes they will bring to the State of New York,” Senator Smith said.
