Brooklyn's 4th Senior Idol

Martin J. Golden

October 5, 2010

and the winner is... Nunzio Franzese!

October 2nd was a night to remember! The audience was packed with hundreds of people cheering and screaming for their favorite singer! Twelve finalists performed singing great tunes such as My Way, It's Impossible, Your Cheating Heart and the winning song was Mack the Knife.

There were people from all over the city cheering for family and friends. They came from Staten Island, Manhattan, Queens, Dyker, Midwood, Canarsie and Babylon.

This event started 4 years ago as a fundraiser for local Bay Ridge AARP Chapter #5055 and now has become a fabulous community event that we all look forward to each year and the talent gets better and better.

Senator Marty Golden was a co-sponsor, TD Bank provided the $500 Grand Prize and Long's Wines and Liquors provided complimentary wine tasting that everyone enjoyed.

The judges, Isabella Masters of TD Bank, Joe Loposky, musical director at Xaverian High School and celebrity judge, Don K Reed, had a difficult time picking the winner. It was so close and the talent so great. The audience votes were counted (over 600) and the winner was announced... Nunzio Franzese.

Joe Franklin, once again was the emcee, and nobody can take his place. His jokes, stories and charm are delightful. He has been on radio for 40 years and has interviewed over 300,000 people on the air! Mr. Franklin loves the show and looks forward to next year.

Al Asfazdour, President of AARP Chapter #5055 was delighted that so many people from all over Brooklyn participated in the contest and came to the show. We raised money for our chapter and we also raised $1000 for the music department at Xaverian High School.

The 50/50 was very successful and 8 lucky people went home with $100.
