Senator Golden and American Italian Cancer Foundation to Offer Free Mammogram Screenings for Women of the Community

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) will host free mammography screenings in conjunction with the American Italian Cancer Foundation later this month at both of his district offices.

The 37 foot mobile mammography van, staffed completely by women, will be outside of Senator Golden’s District Office located on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at his District Office located at 7408-5th Avenue and on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 3604 Quentin Road.

The mammography screenings are free of charge and take about thirty minutes to complete. An appointment, which is necessary, can be made by calling 1-800-453-8378 ext. 1.

Senator Marty Golden stated, "Early detection of breast cancer saves lives, and I encourage all those who have not had a mammogram in more than a year to make an appointment and to get screened."

The objective of the American-Italian Cancer Foundation's (AICF) Free Mobile Mammography Program is to break down the barriers to breast cancer screening that result in many under served women losing their lives to breast cancer due to advanced disease at diagnosis.

Women interested in appointments must be over 40 years of age and have not had a mammogram in the past year. Results will be sent to you and/or your doctor within 10 business days. Uninsured women will be covered by the AICF's funding.
