Senator Golden and Assemblywoman-Elect Malliotakis Promote Opportunity for Employers and Job Seekers

State Senator Marty Golden and Assemblywoman-elect Nicole Malliotakis are extremely pleased with the On-The-Job Training program being offered by the New York State Department of Labor extending grants to businesses that hire and train new employees. The program covers 30 percent of the employee’s salary while they are undergoing training, and up to 50 percent of that cost if the new hire has been unemployed over a long period of time.

Senator Marty Golden (R, C – Brooklyn) stated, "As a former small business owner and leader, I commend the New York State Department of Labor for their vision which has created a program that will be crucial to our efforts to get New York's economy moving again. One of the greatest needs in our community is that of job creation and economic development and this will help on both fronts. I join with Assemblywoman-elect Nicole Malliotakis in bringing awareness to this program and will encourage stores throughout our community to learn more about the benefits it offers."

“Providing incentives for small businesses to hire the unemployed is a logical way to kick-start the state’s economy from the ground up,” said Assemblywoman-elect Nicole Malliotakis (R, C – Staten Island/Brooklyn). “This program benefits both employers and job seekers by giving them an opportunity to be the engines for economic growth that we need in this state.”

In order to qualify for On-The-Job Training grants, the employee must be offered a full-time position of 35 hours per week or more, with a pay rate of at least $10 per hour. Interested businesses must send an e-mail titled “Intent to Apply” to StateOJT@labor.ny.gov, containing the information listed on the Department of Labor’s website. The deadline for “Intent to Apply” e-mails has been extended to Wednesday, December 15.
