Senator Golden Calls for Mta to Keep B37 Rolling in Brooklyn

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is echoing his call that the MTA’s plan to restructure the B70, so to partially supplement service along the current B37 route, is not sufficient and will leave this community underserved. Senator Golden attended and spoke at a rally this past Saturday at the B37 bus stop outside Foodtown at 91st Street and 3rd Avenue.

“The proposal to reroute the B70 along only part of 3rd Avenue should be reconsidered. This is only a partial supplement at best for the B37 bus service which currently runs the entire length of 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn. The proposal will leave people stranded and the discontinuation of this bus service will stand as an obstacle, in the way of people getting to medical appointments, shopping, Lutheran Medical Center and downtown Brooklyn.

I urge that the MTA strongly review this plan and better understand the true impact this bus service reconfiguration will have on the community of Bay Ridge and all of Brooklyn. We are going to continue to fight against this plan. We will join with the Merchants of 3rd Avenue, with the neighbors, with our senior centers and with the residents, to fight against this ridiculous proposal.. I encourage as many as possible to attend my MTA town hall meeting where representatives of the MTA will be in attendance and where we can make our voices heard that we will not accept this ”

Senator Golden will host a town hall meeting on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Xaverian High School, located at 7100 Shore Road, with MTA representatives scheduled to attend. The B 37 currently has an average of 3,280 riders per day.
