Senator Golden Honors Belisa Bernacchi on the Occasion of Her 100th Birthday

Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden recently honored Belisa Bernacchi with a proclamation on the momentous celebration of her 100th Birthday. A celebration was held in the Solarium Room of the Metropolitan Jewish Nursing and Geriatrics Center Home in Brooklyn on her birthday, October 2, 2010.
Belisa Bernacchi was born on October 2, 1910 in Roccaraso, Italy in the Provincia Di Aquila and lived there until she immigrated to the United States. She settled in Chicago, Illinois.
Belisa Bernacchi was married to the late George Bernacchi for 71 years prior to his death at the age of 98. George served as a United States Merchant Marine and was a three war veteran, having proudly served this country in World War II, the Korean War, & the Vietnam War. In the 1990’s, Mr. Bernacchi was made a Veteran of the United States Coast Guard; and
Belisa worked for 27 years in the medical department of AT&T and upon her retirement, worked and helped to make the salads for Joe Major’s Restaurant, working with her son Caesar and daughter in law Frances. Belissa helped prepare food to be donated to the New York City Fire Department in the wake of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and has been a member of the Bay Ridge Community Senior Center for many years.
Senator Golden stated, “I am grateful to have been invited to the party where Belisa celebrated her 100th Birthday. I wish her all the best of continued health and happiness and thank her for all that she has done for our community and the City of New York throughout her lifetime.”
