Senator Golden Kicks Off Summer Reading Program for Students

Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) announced the Senate’s 2010 Summer Reading Challenge, which urges young students to “Make A Splash—READ!” This annual program asks students to record a summary of three books in an official Summer Reading Journal.

In partnership with New York Libraries, Sen. Golden encourages students to participate in the summer reading program. Student who successfully complete their journal will be awarded a certificate of achievement from Senator Marty Golden.

“It is so important for students to remain engaged in the learning process even when they are not in the classroom. The summer reading program is an essential tool in strengthening students language and writing skills. The core values of the summer reading program is to promote literacy. As a participant, it is more likely that a student may make a trip to their local public library and pick up a book without being required to do so. I want to reward students for this accomplishment,” Sen. Golden stated.

Students will be able to access the summer reading journal on the Senator’s website at www.golden.nysenate.gov and should be mailed back to his District Office, located at 7408-5th Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11209 by August 31st. For more information, contact Senator Golden’s office at 718-238-6044.
