Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), joined by Fort Hamilton Army Base Commander Stephen Smith and local elected officials, hosted his annual “Support Our Troops” rally yesterday at John Paul Jones Park located at 101st Street and 4th Avenue.

Residents of the community joined with veterans and family members of active servicemen and women in sending a message of support to our troops both home and overseas. The event featured inspirational speeches and patriotism was on truly on display, with a ceremony built around support of our Nation and our military.

In speaking at the rally, Senator Golden stated, “I wholeheartedly offer my continuing gratitude to our service men and women. I know that all of your standing here today also recognize the sacrifices that have been made. I encourage you to take that spirit and make a difference in the life of a soldier-send a letter or send a care package. And if you have already taken action, I encourage you to continue to do so.”

Senator Golden continued, “As Americans, it is without a doubt that we possess more freedom than any other citizens in the world. The Americans who criticize the battles we are fighting and who criticize our troops have never had liberty taken from them. They have never lived a life where their actions are not constitutionally protected, where they cannot work as they want and be the person that they wish to be. We thank God that there is no war going on in our streets and we have our servicemen to thank for that.”
