Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is urging residents of his district and throughout Brooklyn to complete their 2010 United States Census forms and mail them in time to meet the April 16th deadline. Senator Golden is responding to local reports of a very low return rate both in his district and in Brooklyn.
Senator Golden stated, “We need to get counted so that this community is not shortchanged when federal funds are allocated upon the completion of the 2010 Census. By now, every resident of my district should have received the form and I encourage you to take a few minutes this week to complete it and drop it in a mailbox. It will not take long and your participation will go a long way in shaping the future of transportation, health care, senior centers, education and much more here in our neighborhood.”
Senator Golden continued, “If you can not locate your form or still have yet to receive one, you still have time to obtain one and make sure that you are counted for in the 2010 Census. Nationwide, statistics indicate that about 65% of households have already returned their forms, and here in Brooklyn, the numbers are even lower. We have to do better and we all have to get involved and participate.”
Forms are available at the local library or at some community organizations, or residents should call the U.S. Census Telephone Questionnaire Assistance office at (866) 872-6868 or visit the website at www.2010.census.gov. Census workers will begin knocking on the doors of homes that have not responded to the 2010 Census on May 1st.
