Senator Golden Plans Visits to Local Bus Stops to Mobilize Community Against Planned Express Bus Service Cuts
Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is announcing that he will begin distributing a survey at local express bus stops to riders of the X 27/X37 and the X 28/X38 bus routes in an effort to mobilize commuters against planned service cuts.
The survey is designed to give local express bus commuters in Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Bensonhurst, an opportunity to share their comments related to the planned service cuts which are scheduled to go into effect in June. In their proposed service changes, the Metropolitan Transit Authority has approved the consolidation of the X27/X37 routes and the X28/X38 routes which operated during weekday rush hour. The entire elimination of weekend express service on the X27 and the X28 has also been approved as part of their cost cutting measures.
Senator Marty Golden stated, “If the proposals approved by the MTA go into effect you can say goodbye to express bus service as we know it. The communities of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst depend upon the express bus service to get to and from Manhattan. We need to mobilize, we need to fight back against this plan, and we have to do everything in our power to stop this from happening. These are not empty threats, these cuts are very real.”
Golden continued, “My staff and I will be distributing a survey at express bus stops over the next couple of weeks, so to find out directly what impact these cuts will have on the daily commute of the residents of my district. At the same time, we will be asking riders to sign our petition against these cuts, and to take copies, and have fellow commuters, neighbors, friends and family sign the petition and respond to the survey. I will share the information with the MTA and make the case for the community at the March 3rd public hearing and in meetings and discussions along the way.”
Senator Golden encourages anyone interested in completing the survey, or helping to distribute it, to contact his office at (718) 238-6044 or visit his website at golden.nysenate.gov The survey can be returned via regular mail to Senator Golden’s office at 7408-5th Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11209 or via fax at (718) 238-6170.
