Senator Marty Golden Announces Local Senior Centers to Remain Open

Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today issued the following statement in response to reports that two senior centers in his district, the Fort Hamilton-Saint John’s Satellite and the Moose Lodge Senior Center will continue to operate beyond June 30th.

“This is a great day for all senior citizens of my district who have asked me to do everything in my power to keep their senior center open. Senior centers are homes away from home for many. These centers provide access to a nutritional meal, provide friendship, and help our older adults maintain a strong quality of life. I am glad that working with the Mayor, an agreement was reached to keep these two satellite senior centers open in our community.”

“I thank Mayor Michael Bloomberg for recognizing how important these senior centers are to the well-being of the seniors of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst. The older adults of this community, those who made it what it is today, deserve to have the very best of opportunities. The closing of these senior centers would have had a devastating impact and I am grateful that these programs will continue to operate.”

The Fort Hamilton-Saint John’s Satellite operates at 9000 Shore Road and the Moose Lodge Senior Center is located at 7711-18th Avenue. Senator Marty Golden is a member of the New York State Senate Committee on Aging, and served as the Chairman from 2003-2008.
