Statement by Senator Golden on Failure of Congress to Pass Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today issued a statement in response to yesterday’s failure of the United States House of Representatives to pass the Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act:

“The members of the United States House of Representatives, who voted against the Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, have turned their back on those who came to America’s assistance on, and immediately after, our Nation’s darkest day. The failure to approve this legislation sends the wrong message to New Yorkers and also sends an international message that America has ignored the service of their first responders and the health of their citizens.

As a former New York City Police Officer, it was shocking to learn of the failure of Congress to stand up to aid those who are sick and dying as a result of their efforts at Ground Zero. It is time that the Democrats who represent New York stand up for the people of our City, State and Nation, and encourage their colleagues to do so as well. This legislation must become law before more lives are lost due to the failure of the government to track and properly care for those who have made sacrifices in the name of the country.”
