"Independent businesses are the engines for new job growth in our State. They are integral to rebuilding our economy and creating a better future for our State and Nation,” said Senator Nozzolio.  “It is an honor to receive this award and I commend the NFIB and New York State Director of NFIB Mike Elmendorf for their unwavering commitment to the success and growth of our State's job-producing businesses."

“Senator Nozzolio has long been a friend of New York’s small business owners, job creators and entrepreneurs, fighting for tax relief, more affordable health insurance and regulatory reform. He has been a consistent voice in favor of measures to lower New York’s second-highest in the Nation cost of doing business, and has stood against legislation and unsustainable tax and spend policies that would harm small business and further weaken New York’s economy. We are grateful for Senator Nozzolio’s support and leadership, and are proud to name him a ‘Guardian of Small Business’, NFIB’s highest honor,” said New York State Director Mike Elmendorf.

Senator Nozzolio has long advocated aggressively for Upstate New York’s independent business community. Currently, he is fighting for a comprehensive Economic Recovery Plan to help the private sector recover from the recession. This plan creates a five-year moratorium on new taxes and fees and eliminates last year’s personal income tax hike that hurt over 60,000 small businesses.  It also eliminates the corporate franchise tax, and rolls back job-killing taxes on utilities and health insurance plans.

In addition, Senator Nozzolio is working to establish a Job Creation Tax Credit to reward small businesses and manufacturers that create new jobs or hire someone off of unemployment. Senator Nozzolio is also calling for a moratorium on bureaucratic red tape from State agencies that impedes small businesses from creating jobs and growing the economy.

“Small and large job-producing businesses across the greater Finger Lakes region, throughout Upstate New York, and all across the United States have supported these incentives as the most effective way to create jobs, put people back to work, and promote economic growth,” said Senator Nozzolio. “If we are going to get New York State moving the in the right direction again, creating a favorable environment for independent businesses to grow must be our top priority. I look forward to continuing to work closely with the NFIB to restore New York State as a great place to start and operate a business.”
